Pupils from Repton School Dubai return to the World Finals for the Land Rover 4×4 Schools Technology Challenge with a four member team. Repton School Dubai will be the only school in the UAE representing the country at the World Finals, which will take place in The University of Warwick in Coventry, UK between Friday 12thApril and Wednesday 17thApril 2019.

The ambition of the project is to raise awareness, interest and enthusiasm in engineering through the practical application of STEM subjects and Design & Technology. The challenge replicates a real-life work situation where individuals come together and make a conjoint decision to produce the best output, resolving a complex subject.

The challenge involves a team working together to design and build a radio-controlled four-wheel drive (4×4) vehicle to set specifications. The vehicle must successfully navigate and complete obstacles on an off-road test track which is just as demanding as a real off-road situation, emulating real life and perform as a full scale 4×4 vehicle would.

The team from Repton Dubai will be judged on various aspects including presentation, design profile, team uniformity and identity, as well as the engineering and functionality elements of the vehicle.

David Cook, Headmaster, Repton School Dubai, “We are delighted to represent UAE once again at the prestigious Landrover 4 x 4 World Finals. Being the only school from the country, the challenge is an excellent opportunity that provides our pupils a platform to earn worldwide recognition. The competition also teaches teamwork, develops communication and problem-solving skills that enable them to be better equipped for challenges they may face in the future. At the last World Finals, Repton Dubai won honors for Sustainability and The Most Effective Newcomer. It remains truly inspiring to see how ardent and committed our pupils are to develop their skills and vehicle model as we look forward to achieving another record at the upcoming finals”.
